Cruise Season 2025/2026 Opens

The arrival of the passenger vessel SH Diana at the Port of Mossel Bay on 13 November 2025 signalled more than just the start of the 2025/26 cruise season—it marked a new era for Mossel Bay’s tourism landscape. The vessel’s docking was the first official use of the port’s newly launched R22-million Cruise Reception Facility, an investment by Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) that promises to significantly elevate the coastal town’s appeal as a premier cruise destination

The new facility represents a strategic upgrade that aligns Mossel Bay with global cruise tourism expectations. It provides enhanced passenger handling capacity, improved visitor services, and a welcoming first impression for thousands of international travellers. For a town that has shown consistent tourism growth, the timing could not be better.

During the previous cruise season, Mossel Bay recorded 21 cruise vessel calls that collectively brought over 13,000 passengers to its shores. These visitors injected valuable revenue into local attractions, restaurants, adventure operators and accommodation establishments.

With 23 cruise calls already scheduled for the 2025/26 season, Mossel Bay Tourism anticipates a noticeable increase in arrivals and visitor spend. Cruise travellers typically explore local museums, wildlife experiences, artisanal markets and adventure activities, ensuring broad economic benefit across town. Even short onshore excursions contribute significantly to job creation and small-business growth.

The new reception facility will allow the port to manage higher passenger flows more comfortably, minimising bottlenecks and elevating visitor experience. For tourism, this means not only more travellers—but happier travellers who are more likely to return.

Cruise tourism is more than foot traffic; it is high-value brand exposure. Each ship docking in Mossel Bay amplifies the town’s profile across global cruise itineraries and international travel media. The presence of modern infrastructure reinforces Mossel Bay’s positioning as a world-class, cruise-ready destination within South Africa.

The SH Diana’s arrival—an iconic moment for the port—signals to cruise liners that Mossel Bay is ready for expanded partnerships, larger vessels and more frequent calls. This strengthens long-term tourism resilience by diversifying the region’s visitor markets.

For Mossel Bay Tourism, the Cruise Reception Facility is more than a port upgrade; it is a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. Increased tourist arrivals support local employment, stimulate entrepreneurship, and extend the benefits of tourism to surrounding communities. As the town continues to refine its visitor offerings, the facility stands as an anchor for future development.

With the new season officially underway, Mossel Bay is poised to enter one of its most promising tourism chapters yet—one where modern infrastructure, natural beauty and a thriving visitor economy intersect to create lasting impact.
